Portland, ME October 5, 2009The Greater Portland Convention & Visitors Bureau is pleased to announce that People magazine has, in its October 12 issue, listed Harvest on the Harbor as one of its “Great Ideas” for fall food festivals, one of only four in the nation. Pauline Frommer, creator of Pauline Frommer Guides, says in the article, “Not only does this festival bring more than 100 food vendors, it also takes place during fall foliage season…making it a good time to see ‘some of the most spectacular wooded areas in the U.S.’ ”

“We are thrilled to receive such a great accolade from People,” said Barbara Whitten, President of the Greater Portland Convention and Visitors Bureau. “One of the missions of the event is to show the world that Maine is a culinary destination, and with Bon Appetit naming us ‘The Foodiest Small Town in America’, along with the New York Times’ recent article on the local food scene--and now People magazine--we are getting recognized for our wonderful chefs and the farm-to-table initiative that we are so proud of here in the Greater Portland area.”

Harvest on the Harbor promotes Maine as a culinary destination by celebrating great local chefs and wines from Maine and around the world. Last fall, Harvest on the Harbor was named one of the “Top Ten Seafood and Wine Festivals” by Coastal Living magazine, and it was attended by more than 3,000 foodies from Maine and around the country.

Governor John E. Baldacci recently proclaimed October 22-24 as “Harvest on the Harbor Days”.

Sponsors of the event include Down East magazine, Hannaford Supermarkets and WHOM 94.9FM.
